Bridging Ancient Wisdom with Living Practice
As a practitioner, Dharma teacher, and Zen priest based in the Santa Cruz Mountains, I offer two distinct Buddhist paths. I teach in the Soto Zen lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and the Insight tradition of Theravāda Buddhism, supporting others on the Buddhist path of liberation.
LIVING THE BUDDHA WAY
Hello, I’m Kodo Conlin
Since a chance encounter with seated meditation, I’ve been inspired by the possibility of inner freedom. This inspiration led me to Buddhist practice where I found affinity in the Soto Zen and Theravāda traditions. Deep dives into these communities—ordination as a Zen priest and residential Theravāda training—shaped my understanding and approach. Since being invited to teach, I’ve dedicated myself to supporting others in their practice of the Buddhist path, out of gratitude to my teachers and the lineage of practitioners.
ASPECTS OF PRACTICE
My Offerings
I offer three primary ways to practice together. A well-balanced, sustained practice is nourished by teachings, immersive retreat, and instruction.
Talks & Classes
Buddhist teachings, often paired with meditation practice and discussion. Themes range from the foundations of meditation and ethics to emptiness and liberation.
Retreats & Sittings
Intensive silent practice, from daylong sittings to multi-week retreats. Since the time of the Buddha, practitioners have gathered in this way to immerse in teachings and silent practice.
One-on-One Mentoring
One-on-one practice discussions to extend and deepen our understanding of Buddhist teachings, especially as they bear on the questions arising from our life, on and off the meditation cushion.
